Natural Bridge, AL

Image
I said I heard God's voice under the bridge... It was true. In awe of his creation he has put here--(for ME!)--this thing of beauty. A cavernous space under a huge expanse of rock. A serene setting, HIS voice whispered to me, traveling earthward upon a ray of sunlight. No words--just a musical rustle of leaves, a calming inner quiet. I closed my eyes. I smiled... Blessed to be here. -mnj (Double click the pic to enlarge)

Foray into the Night: July 4th 2012 and beyond...

Image
Fourth of July 2012: Working on mastering shutter speeds...AND composition! Actually taking the tripod out with me has been exciting. It makes me feel like a modern day adventurer-- facing the unknown with my trusty weapon. Also taken last night were these "LOVERS" and "SPARKLER KID" The following streetscapes... I pulled them off my Photobucket (from my Myspace years) account. Next time I will have to set up somewhere WITHOUT a fence guarding the interstate! It was fun though! Another foray into the jungle known as Birmingham. STREETSCAPES: FAIR PLAY: This past fall... The tripod, rules! Thanks for stopping, through! -mnj

Huggy's Birthday Bash

Image
The poet, Huggy Bear, brought his birthday in with a bang! Poets from near and far dropped through to spit some knowledge on the mic and break bread with like minded folks. Moses West, hailing from Jacksonville, FLA hosted the event and even spit a few lines for the audience.  Headlining the event were Tasha Jones (IN) and the ever so lovely, Sunni Patterson (LA). So many ON POINT poets--in ONE spot??!! It was reDONKulous. Mean mugging + the MOE LEAN I am always honored to hear the poet, Sunni Patterson. She quietly nudges your consciousness with eloquently stated verbiage. The mere utterance of a single syllable pulls you into some peaceful place and elevates you to levels unbeknownst previously. A powerful sister with a way with words... ...from static words on paper brought forth through an energetic vortex... Tasha Jones gives an energetic KNOCKOUT type of performance!     Moses West and Seven Soul Jones perform Beautiful/Ugly together...

My Tornado Story...

Image
I SURVIVED APRIL 27th (PG, AL)      " A year ago today my Creator gave my family another chance to LIVE! In a sense I was baptized...I was stripped of everything I wanted and left with only what I NEEDED. I realized my mission and witnessed true love from my friends...and in top of it all, I have my family, my life, and a new outlook. GOD is GOOD! Don't wait til you almost see Him to realize and live in it...."--PLJ3 GOOGLE SPACE... PLEASANT GROVE, AL Wow...right??!! I think this is a great starting point for this post. I live(d) in Pleasant Grove, Alabama and I survived an E-5 tornado that killed 200 some people on April 27, 2011. (Give thanks.) I used to watch the weather reports but I NEVER LISTENED--get it? THAT MORN: The day started with some storms. We didn't feel the affects but I knew there was some damage. I called to check on my husband's grandmother and she tells me her power is out. Of course, I stop at Jacks and pick her

Rally for Justice/Birmingham, AL

Image
My family and I made it to the rally to show solidarity and to present a unified front. We joined in with hundreds of others to lift our singular voice in DISGUST and DISMAY at the lack of justice for Trayvon.  I snapped this pic of this young man as he got out the car with his family-- a teenager probably the same age as Trayvon. Ironic, I know... Shirley Ferrill is found amongst the throng of supporters along with this gentleman in Skittles gear and a Final Call. A VARIETY of people came to show their support! Families, babies, men and women from all walks of life wore their hoodies in support...  Rally for Justice in honor of Trayvon Martin/Birmingham, AL 2012
