A HERO!

The night starts off with a prayer...

A foray into the woods and back roads of Alabama (with guide, Jarmar of Cultureshock) brought Team Johnson into the midst of A Hero's Celebration. A H.E.R.O (actually) America's Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors becomes an outlet for wounded veterans. A support group that takes vets on hunting and fishing expeditions. So how does a paraplegic hunt, you may ask?

Mr. Holmes demonstrates his all titanium gun rig with a straw operated trigger. The crowd giggles along with him as he also points to his beer straw. He chuckles and explains how he has to remember which straw is which!

A small screen serves as his sight. He recently upgraded and was proud of its newer night vision capabilities.

The non profit organization invited friends from the Mixed Martial Arts world, of which included the likes of Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and Manager/Owner, Lex McMahon of Alchemist MMA (son of Ed McMahon). I also was honored to meet "OSP" Ovince St. Preux, A Haitian American MMA fighter from FLA fighting with Strikeforce. This young man played football for Univ of Tenn and graduated with a e degree in Sociology... Glad to see him making his way up the ranks!

The MMA fighters conducted demos for students in the area. Cool to watch... Lots of energy. I loved watching them share their craft.

Everyone I photographed were very obliging and seemed to have a very humble spirit. I enjoyed myself tremendously... I like knowing Im not of the norm in a situation but overcoming racial and social barriers makes me feel triumphant. It was a great night documenting a caring group of people...

Jarmar of Culture Shock.com and Ovince find something in common...

Injured war veteran L. Campbell (of UA) and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson share a moment in Shorter, Alabama.
